Training cum Orientation on Jal Jeevan Mission held at Tura

Tura, Dec 2A One Day Training cum Orientation Programme on Jal Jeevan Mission was held at the Conference Room of Extension Training Centre, Dakopgre, Tura for the District Level Functionaries of District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) of West Garo Hills district.

Speaking on the occasion, Member Secretary, DWSM cum Superintending Engineer (PHE), Tura Circle, S K Gajmer informed that Jal Jeevan Mission is an initiative under the Ministry of Jal Shakti which aims to provide safe and adequate water through individual household connections by 2024 to all rural households in India. He expressed hope and said that the target for the implementation of the project will be achieved with the cooperation and active participation of all the functionaries in the district, block and village level.

Meanwhile in the keynote address, ISA Co-ordinator, Amika K Warr stated that the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has been announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day celebration for providing adequate drinking water to every rural household through functional tap connection on regular basis by 2024 in India. Further, in her PowerPoint presentation, she mentioned that Jal Jeevan Mission was introduced since water is an essential requirement in our daily life and with the increase in population, the demand for water increases day by day leading to a huge gap in demand and supply.

Further, she mentioned that in Meghalaya, the State aims to provide tap connections to all rural households by 2023 and targets 5, 90, 534 households in 6416 Villages during the financial year 2020-2021, however, the cooperation of the stakeholders is necessary at all levels to achieve the target, she said. She also informed that the strategy adopted for the implementation of JJM in the State is based on a community approach that includes extensive information, education, and communication as a key component of the mission.

In the Business Session, Action Plan- VAP, DAP, Plans/Template on IEC was delivered by ISA Coordinator, Annette and Malvern, presentation on Quantity, Quality of Drinking Water Supply and Sustainability of Sources and System was delivered by Lab Technician, PHE, Tura Division. Besides, the presentation on IMIS-Physical and Financial Monitoring was delivered by Kalkame R Marak, SDO (T/C) Tura North Division while, Discussion and Convergence was delivered by S K Gajmer, Superintending Engineer, Tura Circle.
