Tura, July 13: The Tura Adventure Club (TAC) is playing a crucial role in promoting water sports in the Garo Hills.
Organized by the Meghalaya Canoe Association, the camp aimed to scout and prepare promising athletes for the upcoming National Games in canoeing, kayaking, and rafting. The camp from July 10-12 was held at Whitewater Village, Umtham in the Ri-Bhoi district.
Among the 19 selected participants from across the state, the TAC played a crucial role in identifying, mentoring, and coordinating travel for youth from Tura and West Garo Hills, ensuring the area’s representation alongside athletes from East Khasi and East Garo Hills.
Despite limited access to formal training facilities, the Tura-based participants excelled in key paddling techniques, including ferry gliding, sweep strokes, and sprint paddling.
An official of TAC said with continued support and follow-up training, these young athletes from Tura are well-positioned to become key contenders in Meghalaya’s water sports contingent at the National Games and beyond.
