Tura, 23 April: The much-anticipated Tura Football League Super Division commenced on Tuesday at the GBHSS Chandmary Football Turf, Tura.
The Super Division football league is organized by the District Football Association, Tura.
Present at the opening ceremony were Rupankar K Marak, District Forest Officer of East and West Garo Hills, who declared the matches open, along with the president and members of the District Football Association. To mark the beginning of the tournament, the guests were presented with saplings as a gesture of environmental awareness and sustainability.
There are a total of 8 teams competing in this league – Chipakkore FC, Selsella SA, West Balalgre Club, Maram FC, Dadenggre FC, Druma Sandruma SC, Boca Junior FC, and Garuda Foundation. Each team will play one round against each other in the league stage, totaling 7 matches per team.
The league winner will be awarded a cash prize of ₹2 lakhs along with a trophy, while the runners-up will receive ₹1 lakh cash prizes.
The opening match of this league was played between Chipakkore FC and West Balalgre Club.
Chipakkore FC were the reigning champions in the previous Super Division tournament, while West Balalgre Club held the top spot in the First Division last season and were newly promoted to the Super Division this season.
Chipakkore FC dominated the game from the first minute, displaying a relentless attack and scoring two goals against their opponent before halftime. Chipakkore managed to add one more goal in the second half, asserting their dominance. Although West Balalgre Club failed to secure a single goal, they exhibited tremendous effort and showcased immaculate sportsmanship and vigor.
The winning team in the Tura Football League Super Division 2024 will participate in the Meghalaya Super League.
