Shillong, Oct 13: East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem has said the post-mortem report is awaited to determine the nature of injuries found on the body of 7-year-old Kyrshanbor Kharmudai, which could be either ante-mortem or post-mortem.
“The investigation is progressing, and we are waiting for the post-mortem report to get a clearer picture of how the child died,” Syiem told reporters on Monday.
The body of Kyrshanbor, who had gone missing from his residence at Nongrah on October 8, was recovered from Mawpat on October 9.
Asked, the SP said, “There are injuries some could be ante-mortem, some could be post mortem injuries. Usually the body is exposed for a long time it will have post mortem injuries or after death injuries from the various elements of nature.”

Further, Syiem said that the SIT have not ruled out any possibilities, and the spectrum of suspects is wide at this stage.
The motive behind the murder is still unclear, and the police are exploring various possibilities, including ransom, sexual assault, or other reasons.
“Since it is a child out here and where the motive to kill a child is very difficult to establish – it either could be ransom, which has not come about, it could be for sexual assault for which the inquest has not indicated of any sexual assault or will confirm from the post mortem,” Syiem said adding “If there is none of these motives, then we have to look for other motives. It is very important to first establish what is the motive for killing the 7-year-old child.”
Regarding speculation about “menshohnoh” or witchcraft theory surrounding the murder, the SP said that in most cases, such allegations are rooted in enmity, jealousy, ransom or vendetta, rather than supernatural beliefs.
“I have never come across a case at least in my service career that a person being drained out of blood because he is a menshohnoh…We have investigated many cases of menshohnoh allegations, and the root cause is usually different altogether,” he stated.
