Wild elephant damages home in Meghalaya’s Joyfar village, family safe

SHILLONG, JUN 14: A wild elephant raided a home in Joyfar village, Betasing C&RD Block, South West Garo Hills late Friday night, causing extensive damage to property but leaving all residents unharmed.

The incident occurred around 11pm on June 13.

According to local reports, the elephant destroyed the kitchen, broke household utensils, and tore through an attached storeroom belonging to Ketaki Hajong.

Hajong’s family includes six members — two adults and four children.

Officials confirmed that no one was injured during the raid.

“No immediate relief assistance is required right now,” authorities stated.

The concerned departments have taken note of the incident and will conduct a damage assessment to decide further action.
