Shillong, Sep 19: Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma lauded the proposed Women’s Reservation bill as a result of collective pressure and the urgent need for change. He said, “this particular proposed bill is definitely an outcome of our system and collective pressure that is coming from all those group of people who have been keeping this issue very close to their heart and it is also inconsistent with what is required in the nation.”

Sangma emphasised the importance of pursuing the legislative process to secure unanimous passage at the national level. He further underlined that Meghalaya, a state with numerous women representatives, serves as an example of the overall acceptance of the concept of reservation.

Highlighting his personal commitment to women’s empowerment, Sangma said, “I think you have seen how I have tried to personally also empower women and how to send members belonging to other gender, even from the family.”
