BSF nabbed smugglers with cattle laden truck

Shillong, Jan 8: The Border Security Force (BSF) presenting a gh degree of watchfulness on the International Border to assure national security as well as to prevent all kinds of illegal activities in the interiors also.

The BSF troops of 97 Bn BSF on Friday, deployed at mobile check post Sonapur, East Jaintia Hills observed a suspicious truck loaded with bovines. BSF troops tried to stop the truck but truck driver did not pay any heed and crossed the Check post with heavy acceleration. BSF troops pursued and seized 30 cattle cramped in the truck almost 2 km away from the Sonapur check post. The driver managed to flee but 01 Indian national apprehended by BSF troops. A total seizure worth more than Rs 12 Lac was made. All the cattle were tethered tightly with the rope exhibiting cruelty to animals. Cattle were likely to be smuggled to Bangladesh since they were marked with a code on them. Seized cattle, apprehended person and truck all were handed over to Lumshnong police station, East Jaintia Hills for further disposal.

U.K Nayal, DIG (PRO) said that, “BSF is making its best efforts to curb smuggling activities on International Border and these efforts will continue.’’
