Conrad stresses on need for pan-NE party to protect rights and traditions of the region

Itanagar, Oct 18: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) Chief, Conrad K. Sangma has stressed on the need for a pan-Northeast party that represents all eight states.

Speaking to reporters in Itanagar ahead of the NPP conclave on the theme ‘Regional Aspirations, National Outlook’ on October 19, Sangma said NPP has been very clear in the objective that it has to protect the traditions and rights and the customs of the tribal people of North East, and this is possible when a pan-northeast party is there to raises issues of the region.

He said, “Can we have a national outlook and yet have regional aspirations and focus and work on issues that matter to the North East and the people of the NE while ensuring that we maintain our national outlook.”

Conrad on political agenda

Meanwhile, when asked if the conclave was nothing but a political agenda, CM Sangma said, “Yes, absolutely! The National People’s Party (NPP) is an independent party and that the people of the state should know about the issues that is common to everyone.”

He added that NPP is a party which has its own identity and its own ideology.
