Shillong, Sept 27: The Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) on Monday called on Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the presence of the Director and the Officers from the Education department to demand deficit system for 7082 teachers from Lower Primary (LP)to Higher Secondary level in the State.

Veteran teacher and President of FASTOM, Kenneth Shadap told reporters that the CM has assured to try to fulfill all the demands of FATSOM if the state achieves financial stability.

Shadap urged the Government to spare their time for the teachers and hear their cries so the teachers don’t have to come to the streets for their demands.

“If due to financial crises a deficit system cannot be implemented, so we urge the government to adopt the deficit pattern” added Shadap.

In deficit system the teachers will receive basic salary and other allowances from the government side whereas in deficit pattern it will be limited to paying only the allowances, clarified Shadap. “But the association is okay if we only receive deficit pattern since we can receive basic payment,” he added.

Shadap also insisted that since the number to cover is just 7082 teachers, which is not a big number, the government should try to fulfill at least implementation of the deficit pattern to ease the problems of teachers.
