Guwahati, Feb 24: Undeterred by the exit of its senior leaders, Assam Congress have racked up its preparedness for the ensuing Assembly elections in April this year by adopting one of its successful, the Chhattisgarh Model.

Personally being observed by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who had unseated the Raman Singh government in a landslide victory in 2018 polls in the state, a dozen of Baghel’s tacticians have also been brought in to strategise and mentor the Assam Congress leaders and workers from every constituency.

Party insiders said that the training sessions have become much more organised that begins with the administration of an oath (in Hindi) through which, the party workers resolve to remain committed to the Congress and makes a promise to uphold India’s constitution.

Members of ‘Team Baghel’, as they are called, have been handpicked by the Chief Minister and are camping out in different parts of Assam, working on everything from booth-level sessions to workshops for party leaders.

The team consists of advisors to the Chief Minister, cabinet ministers, MLAs and district functionaries, and their progress is being directly monitored by Baghel, who is also one of the Congress’ star campaigners for this election.

Several party workers said the invtervention of Baghel and his team has breathed a fresh lease of life in the Assam Congress that had been dempralised after the exit of its several senior leaders further aggravated by the demise of three-time Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, with whom, the Congress had lost its one of the tallest leaders in the state.

BJP, however, remains unfazed by Congress’s preparation and said the Chhattisgarh defeat was a one-time thing and will not be repeated in Assam.
