Govt putting in serious efforts to prevent wildlife poaching: James

Shillong, Oct 8: Meghalaya Forest and Environment Minister James K Sangma on Friday said the government is making serious efforts to prevent poaching of wild animals in the State.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the World Wildlife Week 2021 at Lady Hydari Park, Shillong here, Sangma said, “Meghalaya is rich in a wide variety of wild flora and fauna. I am ensuring that serious efforts are made to prevent the poaching of wild animals and to protect their natural habitat in the State.”


He also underscored that the Forests & Environment Department is deeply committed towards protecting the State’s natural environment and diverse wildlife.

The Minister further said strict actions are taken against those who poach and destroy the local environment.

The Valedictory Function was also attended by D.P. Wahlang, Addl. Chief Secretary, Forests & Environment Department, B. K. Lyngwa, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force, Meghalaya, H. C. Chaudhary, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Wildlife & Chief Wildlife Warden, amongst others.
