SHILLONG, NOV 20: A three-member delegation of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) on Wednesday sought the intervention of the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for expediting the release of funds under the 15th Finance Commission and provide special assistance for various developmental projects in the Khasi Hills region.
The delegation was led by executive member (EM) in-charge land Powell Sohkhlet, EM in-charge finance Seiborlang Warbah and nominated MDC Matthew Makdoh.

Sohkhlet said that the meeting focused on expediting the release of funds under the Fifteenth Finance Commission, routed through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
“The meeting with the Finance Minister of the country was a fruitful one. She has instructed the concerned officials to pursue all possible avenues to unlock the remaining Fifteenth Finance Commission funds,” he stated.
“The Council has impressed upon the Minister to provide special assistance for tribal‑area projects, which are crucial for the progress of our people,” Sohkhlet also informed.
On Tuesday, the delegation had also met joint secretary and officials of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, which is looking after the implementation of the projects sanctioned under the 15th Finance Commission.
