Land acquisition initiated for four-laning of NH-6: Prestone

Shillong, March 23: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Thursday informed the Assembly that land acquisition has already been initiated for widening of the National Highway – 6 to a four-lane road.

Replying during the question hour, Tynsong said the starting point of the four laning of the NH-6 is from Umroi junction up to Ratacherra and the project is called as the ‘economic corridor’. The project is being taken on priority by the Government of India.

He informed that the feasibility report has been completed and detailed project report (DPR) is on the way.

“Land acquisition has already been initiated and I am sure it will be completed very soon and tendering process will also start,” Tynsong said.

NPP legislator from Saipung-Sutnga Santa Mary Shylla has requested the government to speed up the construction of the four laning of the NH-6 since the road is a lifeline of many states in the North East region.

Echoing similar concerns, UDP legislator from Mokaiaw Nujorki Sungoh said people are getting stuck for 6-7 hours due to the traffic jam along the NH-6 and requested the government to get the sanction for the road at the earliest possible.

He also requested the immediate repairing of the Jowai Bypass which is in a pathetic condition.

To this, deputy chief minister informed that the work order has been issued and Rs 11 crore to Rs 12 crore has been sanctioned and instruction has been given to the contractor to start the repairing of the Jowai Bypass immediately.
