Shillong, Feb 14: Meghalaya’s youth put up a strong performance at the North East Regional Skill Competition 2026, securing two gold medals, two silver medals and a bronze, along with five Medallions of Excellence at the five-day event held in Guwahati from January 18 to 22.
A total of 22 students from the state participated in the competition, organised at the regional level, competing across 12 skill categories, including Automobile Technology, Electrical Installations, Cooking, Beauty Therapy, Fashion Technology, Digital Interactive Media, Graphic Design Technology, Carpentry, Floristry, Cloud Computing, Restaurant Service and Bakery.

Dashemphang Thongni clinched gold in Carpentry, while Hamebansan Lawriniang secured gold in Digital Interactive Media. Silver medals went to John Maring in Automobile Technology and Deicy Swer in Graphic Design Technology. Kyrshan Paliar brought home a bronze in Graphic Design Technology.
In addition, five participants were awarded the Medallion of Excellence for their performance: Anisha Ch Marak (Cooking), Larisuk Sohtun (Restaurant Service), Ilarisha Matlang (Restaurant Service), Malvareen Umsong (Bakery), and Fredickson K. Mawrie (Electrical Installations).

The results were announced by the Directorate of Employment & Craftsmen Training under the Department of Labour, Employment & Skill Development.
Officials said the medal tally underscores the growing competitiveness and technical proficiency of Meghalaya’s youth in emerging and traditional trades, strengthening the state’s presence in the regional skilling ecosystem.
