SHILLONG, OCT 16: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has assured that the government will protect the services of all SSA teachers in the state.
This assurance was given during a meeting held on Thursday with representatives of the Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA), All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASTA), and the All Meghalaya Fourth Teachers’ Association (AMFTA).
The meeting, attended by education minister Lahkmen Rymbui and officials from the education department, focused on two key agendas: taking over of SSA schools to protect job security and pay enhancement for SSA teachers.
“We had a very positive meeting. We are very thankful to the chief minister and education minister that they have made it clear that the government will protect the services of all SSA teachers, given that the SSA program is set to end by March 31, 2026,” MSSASA president Aristotle C Rymbai told reporters.
Regarding the pay enhancement, Rymbai said, “The chief minister has made it very clear that the pay enhancement of SSA teachers will be in the form of pay scale structure.”
The details of the meeting will be shared with all SSA teachers in a general meeting to be held soon.

The teachers’ associations have welcomed the assurance given by the chief minister and education minister.
“A general meeting will be convened once the minutes of the meeting are received, where the discussion will be highlighted to all SSA teachers,” Rymbai added.
Notably, over 3,332 SSA schools in Meghalaya have submitted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to hand over their management to the state government, out of a total of 5,131 SSA schools in the state.
Out of this, there are 298 religious and private managed SSA schools.
