Meghalaya’s vax drive hit by hesitancy hurdle; CM Conrad urges people to get themselves jabbed

Shillong, Nov 1: Amid the huge hesitancy in the state relating to the covid-19 vaccine, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has asserted that the Government cannot force anyone to go for vaccination but their own will.

Speaking to media persons on November 1, Chief Minister said that though the Covid-19 situation has not been reviewed at the State cabinet-level he is monitoring the situation.

Sangma said that the protocols which need to be changed are being done at the Chief Secretary level after due consultations with him.

Stating that covid situation has always caught any Government by surprise, the Chief Minister added that the Government has learned a lot and even health-related infrastructure has been expanded in the state.

Pointing out that vaccination has helped to a great extent, Sangma expressed concern over the fact that a large number of people are hesitant about vaccines which is not a good sign.

Urging people to go for both doses, he said that the state government cannot force people to go for vaccination.

Notably, in the recently concluded bye-election, the Health Department had also set up vaccine booths in which around 600 people were vaccinated.
