Shillong, June 8: Shri Rakkam A. Sangma, recently takeover as Chairman of the Meghalaya Resources & Employment Generation Council (MREGC), today stated that the revival and streamlining of MREGC will be his immediate priority to ensure the Council functions effectively as per its mandate.
Meghalaya Resources & Employment Generation Council (MREGC) is an advisory body under the Planning Department, Government of Meghalaya, mandated to provide policy inputs to the Government and monitor implementation of various schemes and activities at all levels. However, the Council has not been functioning properly for several years, leading to lack of awareness about its role and contribution.
“The objectives of MREGC are very important and there is multiple areas where the Council can contribute meaningfully.
However for the last nine months I have been undergoing treatment for leg injuries and confined to hospital even today still under treatment only but despite this, I have given clear directions to the Department to ensure full functioning of the MREGC office as mandated,” Shri Sangma said.
He added that steps will be taken to streamline and strengthen the Council in line with its aims and objectives, making it a responsive and result-oriented body for policy support and monitoring in the State.
