Delhi, Nov 25: More than 1,000 primary school teachers from Meghalaya took part in a massive nationwide dharna at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi on Monday to oppose the Supreme Court’s recent directive requiring all non-TET qualified teachers to clear the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) within two years.

The protest, organised by the All India Primary Teachers’ Federation (AIPTF), drew over 50,000 teachers from across India.

The Khasi, Jaintia, and Garo regions under the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers Association (AMPSTA) and its affiliate APSTA was led by AMPSTA General Secretary F.C. Shullai and President Dipak Marak.

Their strong presence highlighted the growing concern among primary teachers in the state over the implications of the ruling.

AMPSTA/APSTA leadership reaffirmed Meghalaya teachers’ full support for the AIPTF’s decision to challenge the Supreme Court order through legal means.

They stressed that the two-year TET deadline is impractical and places undue pressure on thousands of teachers who have long served the education sector.
