Aizawl, Aug 12: Mizoram has enrolled 1,947 refugees from Myanmar and Bangladesh in an ongoing biometric registration exercise, though progress has been hampered by technical glitches and poor internet connectivity in remote areas, officials said.
The enrolment drive, covering all 11 districts, records biometric and demographic details of refugees. According to the state home department, Mizoram is currently sheltering 32,504 refugees from Myanmar, with Champhai district hosting the largest share at 13,586.

Despite starting the process on July 31, Champhai has so far enrolled only seven refugees due to repeated equipment failures.
The influx began after the February 2021 military coup in Myanmar, with numbers now estimated at nearly 33,000. Most of the refugees are from the Chin community, sharing close ethnic and cultural ties with the Mizo population, and are staying in camps across the state.
