Two-day cultural spectacle draws global artists, boosts tourism, and cements Meghalaya’s standing in India’s concert economy

Shillong, Nov 16: The Shillong Cherry Blossom Music & Arts Festival 2025 concluded with spectacular energy, reaffirming Meghalaya’s rise as one of India’s leading concert destinations.

Over two packed days, the festival drew thousands to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and cultural hotspots across the city, showcasing a rare blend of global headliners, homegrown talent, and immersive cultural experiences.

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the festival, calling it a “complete cultural package” that reflects the State’s vision for tourism and creative industry growth.

Bollywood performer Nora Fatehi set the tone with a high-voltage act, followed by Irish rock giants The Script, who had the stadium belting out “Hall of Fame.” The night peaked with pop superstar Jason Derulo, whose chart-toppers “Swalla” and “Savage Love” lit up the arena as LED wristbands created a synchronised visual spectacle.

At Ward’s Lake, the Japan Arena offered kimono experiences, art showcases, and cultural workshops—deepening the festival’s global-local cultural exchange.

Shillong’s own Meba Ofilia opened with a soulful set, leading into powerful performances by Japan’s Drum Tao and DJ Kennedy. A poignant tribute to late icon Zubeen Garg united the stadium in a moving rendition of Mayabini.

The energy surged with international favourites—Aqua turned the venue into a nostalgic dance party with “Barbie Girl,” Tyga delivered a punchy hip-hop set, and Grammy-winning DJ Diplo closed the festival with a blistering electronic finale. Supporting acts Zethan and Arius kept the momentum flowing.

Beyond the main stage, cosplay showcases, art installations, local crafts, and culinary stalls created a vibrant, multi-sensory atmosphere. The festival also highlighted the success of the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) in nurturing local talent and creating opportunities within the State’s expanding creative economy.
