Imphal, May 17: Tensions and frustration continued to mount within the Naga community in Manipur after six civilians abducted from Leilon Vaiphei Kuki village in Kangpokpi district reportedly remained in captivity since May 13.

According to reports, around 20 Naga civilians were allegedly taken hostage by armed Kuki groups during the incident. While several of them were later released, six people are still unaccounted for, triggering widespread outrage and anxiety among local residents and civil society organisations.

The Koubru Range Liangmai Women’s Union organised a protest at Kanglatongbi in Kangpokpi district, demanding immediate intervention from both the state and Central governments.

“We have been protesting since the day our beloved Naga civilians from Konsakhul were abducted on May 13. Six of them are yet to be released. We have been demanding their safe release, but no positive response has been received from the government,” a protester said.

Appealing to the Central government for urgent intervention, the protester said the families of those abducted were living in fear and uncertainty.

“We don’t know whether our Naga brothers are still alive or not. We need your help,” the protester added.
