TURA, Feb 27: In a tragic incident on polling day, two teenage sisters lost their lives to drowning on the outskirts of Tura.

The two girls. Aged 17 and 19 and hailing from Rongkhon Songgital locality of Dakopgre, Tura, had gone to Sela Wari water body to bath their dog.

It was while the dog was in the water that currents took it away and in desperationto save their pet, unknowing that dogs are excellent swimmers, one of the sisters jumped into the water.

She was dragged down and her sibling tried to rescue her by getting into the water only to lose her life also.

It was a double tragedy for the family as both the girls were being brought up single handedly by their mother after their father abandoned her and the young children.

The teenage sisters who died from drowning have been identified as

Sania A Sangma (youngest daughter)
