Tura, Oct 27: The Babupara Ghat in Tura came alive this evening as thousands of devotees gathered to celebrate Chhath Puja, one of the most important festivals of the Bihari community.
The Chhath Puja Committee, which has been organizing the event since 1925, continued its tradition of devotion and discipline, marking nearly a century of uninterrupted celebration.
The district administration, along with the West Garo Hills Police, made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth traffic management and maintain law and order during the festivities.
Traffic personnel were deployed around Babupara and adjoining areas to regulate the movement of vehicles.
To assist the authorities, the Chhath Puja Committee also deployed volunteers, including youth and women, at key points and near the riverbank to manage the crowd and respond to any emergency. A medical team was also stationed at the venue for assistance.
The Puja will conclude on the morning of October 28. Committee members have assured that once the rituals are completed, they will take responsibility for cleaning the entire venue.
Vidyasagar Mishra, advisor to the Chhath Puja Committee, told Hub News, “This Chhath Puja here started almost 100 years ago and it’s still continuing. We have been celebrating peacefully with no untoward incidents, and we thank the District Administration, West Garo Hills Police, and the local people.”
Although 2025 will mark the 100th year of the Babupara Chhath Ghat, the committee has decided to hold a grand celebration next year to commemorate the milestone.
