Shillong, Dec 12: UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh has expressed confidence that his party will perform better in the 2028 election, predicting that they will double their numbers from the 2023 election.
“We are very positive, we are moving to that direction, as a regional party we are very confident… 2023 we have double the numbers and 2028 we do expect that we will double the number also by then,” Lyngdoh said on Thursday.
He attributed the party’s optimism to the growing recognition of regional parties in the state. “I am sure that the people will realize how to give regional parties a chance and a role in a better way,” he added.
On the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections, Lyngdoh said that the party is yet to finalize its strategy. “As far as GHADC is concerned, we have a group of party leaders in Garo Hills… They are yet to give us the final thing, but it shows perhaps few seats we may attempt to put candidates,” he said.
The UDP leader indicated that the party will take a final decision on the GHADC election in the coming weeks.
