SHILLONG, FEB 26: UDP legislator from Mookaiaw, Nujorki Sungoh, has urged Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to consider setting up at least one of the proposed colleges for agriculture, horticulture, veterinary, livestock, and fishery in Jaintia Hills.
Participating during the budget discussion in the Assembly on Wednesday, Sungoh emphasized that this is a long-standing demand of the people of Jaintia Hills, who have to travel outside the district for higher studies.
Sungoh also raised concerns about the lack of development in Jaintia Hills, citing the absence of a Superintendent Engineer PHE office in Jowai despite assurances from the minister.
He highlighted the poor state of the Jowai veterinary hospital, which is still functioning in temporary buildings.
The legislator also pointed out the need for improved infrastructure in Yoksi village, a popular tourist destination, including better roads and amenities.
Regarding sports, Sungoh mentioned that he has requested the minister to sanction an artificial turf in his constituency.
He also urged the Chief Minister to ease guidelines for the Border Area Development Project and consider setting up a civil subdivision in Laskein Block.
