SHILLONG, MAR 13: NPP legislator from East Shillong and adviser to the MDA government Ampareen Lyngdoh has stated she would rather focus on her assembly constituency than contest the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by‑election.
“A question of desire is irrelevant. It is a question of commitment,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Friday when asked about a possible run.
“A political party would decide on a candidate and that candidate’s consent would be sought…I wish to be relieved, given an opportunity or a choice because I must concentrate on my LA seat and not get distracted.”
Lyngdoh, who lost the 2024 Lok Sabha race to VPP’s Ricky AJ Syngkon, noted that preparations for the 2028 state elections “are now at a crossroad.”
She stressed the decision rests with her party. “whether or not I wish to…would be left to the wisdom of a party,” Lyngdoh stated.
