Tura, Oct 7 : The only woman candidate in the fray for the Rajabala bye-election, Congress candidate Hashina Yasmin Mondol filed her nomination papers before the Returning Officer at Tura D C office on Thursday.
Mondol was accompanied by party workers in her journey to the filing of nomination papers. But, senior most Congress leader and former chief minister Dr. Mukul Sangma was not present.
The filing of nomination papers by Mondol brings the total number of candidates to two, so far, in the Rajabala contest. The only other candidate so far to file his nomination is Abdus Saleh of the NPP.
Saleh is a former two term Mahendraganj MLA who is contesting Rajabala for the third time. In his earlier contests, he was an Independent candidate.
Another candidate who is expected to file his nomination papers on Friday is sitting Congress GHADC MDC Ashahel D Shira who, on Wednesday, joined the UDP over denial of party ticket by his parent party.
