Imphal, April 25: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday met representatives from various localities to discuss the prevailing situation in the state, stressing that dialogue remains the only viable path to peace.
Addressing the media, Singh said lasting peace can only be achieved through talks and by bringing all sides together at the negotiating table. He underscored that the ongoing unrest has severely affected daily wage earners and disrupted the academic environment for children.
The Chief Minister added that the government alone cannot restore normalcy unless the public and civil society organisations actively support peace efforts. He appealed to all stakeholders to come forward for dialogue to find a comprehensive resolution to the crisis.
Singh also announced that the state Cabinet has decided to provide government jobs to parents of children killed in the unfortunate Tronglaobi incident, considering their current employment conditions.
Meanwhile, Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said the government has so far tolerated democratic and non-violent protests. He noted that the Chief Minister met several groups who visited the Secretariat following a public rally earlier in the day.
Konthoujam added that the government had invited Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity to discuss their grievances, but the invitation was declined.
He further said arrangements have been made for internally displaced persons (IDPs) to return to their homes, though the process has been delayed due to the current situation and a prevailing trust deficit among communities. The Chief Minister, he added, has also been visiting relief camps of displaced people from both communities whenever possible.
