Shillong, Jan 6: Meghalaya Police has issued a cautionary note to people against receiving calls or messages from fraudsters disguising themselves as government officers and asking people to purchase gift cards from Amazon and to email the gift card to a certain email.
“It has come to the notice of the undersigned that complaints have been received from various people regarding imposters/fraudsters posing as Heads of Department/Senior Government officials/Head of Government etc. who are sending messages through WhatsApp to various people and asking them to purchase Amazon gift cards of Rs. 10,000 (Rupees ten thousand) value and to email the gift card to an email address [email protected],” informed Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police(City), East Khasi Hills, in a press statement on Thursday.
He urged the people not to respond to such messages and to inform the nearest Police Station/Out Post/ Beat House immediately if they receive such a message.
