Shillong, June 13: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said there is no question of reconducting the written examination of the different categories of posts in the Meghalaya police.
He was reacting to the recent demand made by the leader of opposition Mukul Sangma for reconducting the written examination due to alleged failure of the Central Recruitment Board (CRB) to conform to parameters for ensuring integrity of the whole recruitment process. Sangma had questioned whether there is any provision for the CRB to allow submission of petitions by the candidates after the examination.
When sought for his comment, Tynsong said it is ‘not possible’ to reconduct the examination.
Informing that the CRB of the Meghalaya police had received few petitions and he has also seen them, the Dy CM argued why the candidates did not report instances of unfair means being used by other candidates during the exam within the examination hall.
“Those petitioners, when they were in the examination hall, they did not say anything. They should have responded there itself, in case, if they saw any candidate, their colleagues are with their mobiles as all SOPs have been given and while entering the classroom… after 2-3 days, we received the complaint, which I personally feel is too late,” he expressed.
“Therefore, after scrutinizing the petitions, we already responded. We have told them as some of them they did not even give their proper address, their proper names and mostly not even the candidates themselves, therefore, to just say that we have to go for re-examination it is not as simple as that,” he further said.
He also explained that if it was conducting re-examination for just 100-200 people, it wouldn’t be much of a problem. However, the recruitment exam relates to thousands of applicants. “What about thousands, who did not complaint, what will they do, where are we going,” he questioned.
“So, these are the kinds of things, we have studied and we have seen. Therefore, re-examination is not at all possible,” Tynsong affirmed.
