Political parties briefed as electoral roll revision gathers pace in West Garo Hills

Tura, July 2: With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls gaining momentum in Meghalaya, election authorities in West Garo Hills on Thursday held a coordination meeting with political parties to ensure transparency and smooth conduct of the ongoing voter verification exercise.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) Vibhor Aggarwal, was attended by Electoral Roll Observer Rikse R. Marak, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and representatives of various political parties at the DRDA Conference Hall in Tura.

With Booth Level Officers already carrying out house-to-house voter verification across the district, discussions focused on the role of Booth Level Agents (BLAs), the dos and don’ts of the revision process, and concerns raised by political parties.

Aggarwal said such consultative meetings were essential to ensure close coordination with political parties, whose cooperation is vital for preparing a fair, accurate and inclusive electoral roll. He invited feedback on the ongoing SIR exercise and assured all necessary support to ensure a transparent revision process.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election) Nipon Hajong briefed participants on the district’s preparedness for SIR 2026 and outlined the responsibilities of Booth Level Agents during the exercise.

Electoral Roll Observer Rikse R. Marak reviewed the progress of the revision process and urged Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers to closely monitor the exercise, stressing that the responsibility entrusted to them must be carried out with diligence.

The meeting concluded with election officials responding to queries and concerns raised by representatives of political parties on the ongoing electoral roll revision in West Garo Hills.
