Shillong, Dec 2: The Shillong Municipal Employees Association (SMEA) on Thursday called off their ‘pen-down strike’ after the Minister in-charge promised to meet with the employees demand in the implementation of their salaries accordingly with the 5th Pay Commission.
Paulus MarweiƱ, the General Secretary of Shillong Municipal Employees Association, on speaking to reporters after the meeting with the minister in-charge Sniawbhalang Dhar said that the meeting was fruitful as the minister has promised to clear off the pending salaries before Christmas.
“The Minister has said he will give the salaries in two instalments, the first instalment we will receive within this week and the second instalment we will receive just before Christmas” said MarweiƱ.
On December 1 the Shillong Municipal Employees Association had called for an agitation demanding the implementation of their salaries under the 5th Pay Commission.
