SEBA introduces OMR sheets for HSLC exams in Math, English, Science, and Social Science

Must read

Guwahati, Jan 31: With the High School Leaving Examinations (HSLC) just around the corner, SEBA has implemented significant changes. For the first time, optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets will be utilised in mathematics, English, general science, and social science subjects.

The OMR sheet, comprising 50% of the questions, includes 45 questions, each valued at one mark. Candidates are instructed to record their responses to the long questions, accounting for 45 marks, in a separate notebook.

This means that candidates will receive two question papers worth 45 marks each. The practical examination of the subjects will have 10 marks. There will be certain rules for use on the OMR sheet.

SEBA Secretary NN Nath said that OMR sheets in Mathematics, English, General Science, and Social Science subjects have been introduced in the Matriculation Examination this year. Since last year, 50% of the questions in mathematics, English, general science, and social science have been made objective. This time, OMR sheets have been arranged instead of objective answer sheets. Each OMR sheet will contain the name and roll number of the candidate. Sample OMR sheets were published a few months ago.

Many schools have used their own OMR sheets in the semester examinations for the convenience of the students. The SEBA has issued guidelines on how to use OMR sheets on the back of admit cards.

He added that the use of OMR sheets will reduce the time required to view the books, and the results will be given earlier than before. More than 4,25,000 candidates will sit for the matriculation examination from February 16 to March 4 at 913 examination centres. The SEBA has already completed preparations for the examination.
