Shillong, Jan 9: The bail application of suspended senior police officer G.K. Iangrai was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) of India on Monday. This was informed by Iangrai’s counsel adv. Phuyosa Yobin whereby he also said the SC has issued notice on bail application of the police officer.
It may be mentioned that on November 2, 2022, Iangrai, serving as the Commandant of the SF-10 battalion, was arrested after alleged diversion of funds in the construction of National Emergency Response System (NERS) building at Sadar police station at Shillong. Subsequently, the state government froze his bank accounts.
Yobin, the advocate of Iangrai, said the SC was pleased to issue a notice and fix a returnable date. “Earlier, the application was rejected twice by the Special Judge and also by the High Court of Meghalaya, this has compelled us to file a bail application before the Supreme Court,” he informed.
Iangrai was in police custody since November 5 and has been moved to judicial custody since November 12. His sister had filed a bail application on his behalf in the High Court of Meghalaya, which was rejected.
