Nongpoh, March 31: In preparation for the upcoming G20 nations’ meet on Space, which is set to take place in Shillong on April 17-18, women in the Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya have taken it upon themselves to welcome the delegates from 20 countries to the “Abode of Clouds”.
A group of women from Quinine and Umsaw villages joined hands to clean up the highway from Jorabat to Umiam, with the support of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The women signed a daily-wage contract with NHAI and began their work on March 30, which will continue until April 1.
In a recent announcement, Meghalaya Governor BD Mishra confirmed that Shillong will be among the cities in India chosen to host the G20 nations’ meet on Space. He made this announcement during the Republic Day celebrations at Polo Ground, Shillong earlier this year.
